"The only thing that could spoil a day was people. People were always the limiters of happiness except for the very few that were as good as spring itself."

put a sock in it

Put a sock in it

Meaning

A request to be quiet.

Origin

This is a colloquial British phrase that originated in the early 20th century. It is generally used when someone is being so noisy as to annoy others. The implication is that those making the noise should put the sock in their mouths. The derivation isn't known.

the caged bird

“I know why the caged bird sings, ah me, when his wing is bruised and his bosom sore; when he beats his bars and he would be free, it is not a carol of joy or glee, but a prayer that he sends from his heart's deep core."
Paul Laurence Dunbar

Winston Churchill:

"Never give in! Never give in! Never, never, never, never - in nothing great or small, large or petty. Never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense."

An Irish Blessing

May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light, may good luck pursue you each morning and night.

When Irish eyes are smiling

When Irish eyes are smiling Sure it's like a morning spring. In the lilt of Irish laughter, You can hear the angels sing. When Irish hearts are happy, All the world seems bright and gay. And when Irish eyes are smiling, Sure, they steal your heart away.

St. Patrick's Day is an enchanted time -- a day to begin transforming winter's dreams into summer's magic.

it should be read at least twice in this lifetime.
